Essar Energy, Tranmere Oil Terminal - Secomak GP8 Siren Test | June 2024
The June 2024 test of Essar Energy's Tranmere Oil Terminal warning siren, recorded at Rock Ferry station on 5 June 2024. The test is conducted on the first Wednesday of each month at 10am, and consists of a few blasts in "wail", followed immediately by a short "all clear" - similar to the Devonport Dockyard sirens.
The siren, a Secomak GP8 with a Dutchi motor, seems to be run off a variable frequency drive, with very slow wind-ups and very quick wind-downs.
Due to a lack of suitable locations from which to record the siren up close, I elected to film the test from Rock Ferry station instead - though Merseyrail had their own ideas about how successful that should be!

SOLENIS, Low Moor - June 2024 Siren Test | Klaxon ES2S
A recording of the June 2024 evening siren test at Solenis' Low Moor works. This is the Klaxon ES2S on New Works Road. The tests here take place every 6 months, on the first Thursday of June and December each year, and run twice on each test day - at 10am, and again at 8pm. Each test lasts approximately one minute, and uses the default Klaxon dual-tone "wail", which starts and ends fairly abrup...

The March 2024 test of Hertfordshire Oil Storage Ltd's Buncefield terminal warning siren. The siren, a Klaxon ES2, is tested twice a year by agreement with local authorities. It runs the incident tone - Klaxon's hi-lo - followed immediately afterward by a steady tone, which signifies "all clear". Since my previous visit in September 2020, the siren appears to have been replaced, which has led t...

INEOS/Inovyn have one of their main manufacturing sites located in Newton Aycliffe, in County Durham. The site employs 2-3 sirens to act as its Major Incident alarm, and these are tested weekly, at 10:45. Tests usually consist of four or five blasts in the "wail/attack" tone, with roughly 20 seconds of "alert/all clear" following after a short break. It was nice to once again hear the “attack” ...

It sounds like a klaxon gp8 to me because it winds up fast and get to it's highest point of volume quickly but i can't confirm that it is a gp8 tho
@@kingelectro887 these are GP12s - people have been to see them (myself included) and we’ve confirmed them :)
@@al66class59 nice
@@al66class59 as I said I couldn't confirm it being a gp8 but it sounded like one but didn't know they were gp12s!
@@kingelectro887 yeah to be fair they all sound similar. GP12s have such large motors that they have to use “star-delta” starters to keep the startup current under control. That’s why it winds up slowly before jumping to full speed :)
Can't wait
Very creepy sounding, awesome video though 🔊🤩
@@hmsirensandfirealarms thanks - was great fun to film, if a bit tricky (thanks trains)
Very eerie! Absolutely love this!
It must be said, so did I! Shame about Merseyrail, but hey, they threatened to do that a mere 24h earlier at Capenhurst so I can't be too surprised lol
@@al66class59loved capenhurst too- nothing beats the jarring wail of a Secomak syren! As you were in the area, did you hear innospec’s siren test at Ellesmere Port or is that a different time of the week?
@@randomores that’s on a Thursday, so wasn’t tested, and in any case was probably too far away from Tranmere! I was tempted to go, but didn’t really fancy getting up at 6am to go to Liverpool three days in a row since connections between Transpennines from Leeds and trains towards Ellesmere Port on Merseyrail weren’t especially convenient
@@al66class59ah man, fair enough. Almost tempting to see if the 2001 on top of innospec is still sounded but I have a feeling not…
@@randomores doesn’t appear to have spun in a while based on satellite images, so probably inactive. The one in carrington runs, but seems to be just that one…

That’s so cool! Slightly creepy. Reminds me of Keyham.
@@alarmmuseum me too to a degree. Love the slightly higher pitch max speed on this one, adds a bit of eerieness to it!
Congrats on 1K mate!
@@hmsirensandfirealarms thanks - wasn’t actually aware I’d crossed it until I noticed this comment 😂😂
Woah how many sirens are on this site or are those echoes??? That’s an amazing recording man!
At least two, but maybe 3. Only one location known for sure at this stage, and the nature of the site means finding the other(s) may be tricky... a great sound regardless!
That… that’s not an XT22, is it?! I’m probably wrong, but I need to ask!
Nah, eyeballed the prominent one on the audio and it's a conventional 10/12 under a shelter. Unfortunately!
Ahhh, that sounds about right. I very nice recording, by the way! I like the choice of location!
@@CivilDefenceFox the station was kinda the obvious choice - highest publicly-accessible location in the area, and while there is somewhere that has sight of one siren, it's on a fairly busy road with no footpath. If I were to go again (and I would like to), I might try that, mind
I think it’s a Castle Castings with the same problem as the Laneham siren after Rampton (where the rotors are put in the wrong stators) but I like it like that. It sounds cool!
@@hmsirensandfirealarms Sounded more Secomak-y to me, but they're all so similar it won't make much difference!
Well done for filming this! I really enjoyed watching it. I love the longer wind down in the ‘attack’ signal.
Fascinating how the different timing variations can change the sound so much!
Very nice recording! Is it just me, or does the siren begin to sound a bit off at 1:36?
It’s dual tone, I think it just depends on how the wind carries the certain frequencies
Might be a bit of wind direction, a bit of microphone stuff and so on… siren itself didn’t sound that different at points during the test, besides the stark change in pitch from previously!
That’s such a cool sound! Does sound nicer now I think. Great catch as always.
Ah cool! I remembered seeing a video and they sounded like Castings that had that problem that Laneham had (where the rotors were put on the wrong stators) but I am excited to see your footage!
I always loved how they sounded with the rotors mixed up.
Yeah it is strange. Did sound a bit off at the time but didn't quite put two and two together. Think these ones might be GP8s, but still they sounded great... even if their test being second (after the on-site alarms) did cause me a bit of a panic attack lmao
Oh wow! A new ES? Never expected to see that here but that’s an awesome video of this new ES. I kinda like that high pitched French Fire Tone 🔊
Surprised me too! Failed to clock it wasn’t the same siren despite it having mysteriously gained stickers etc. Kinda just assumed it would be the same, and probably would’ve predicted the same tone even if I’d realised the horns had been replaced! Love it regardless 😂
@@al66class59 It’s an awesome recording and very interesting sounding. Ever planning on filming that one at Gatwick Airport if you ever get test dates? 🔊
@@hmsirensandfirealarms wouldn’t rule it out! I know someone who lives nearby so I’ll see what I can find out
@@al66class59 Ah that’s awesome, ES’s are one of my favourite electronic sirens and I really can’t wait to see more videos of them. I am gonna try head to England and try catch some going off
@@hmsirensandfirealarms ah that’s cool… might even find I upload another one in a few weeks - the only other one I’ve recorded already 😂
Wow that is an interesting change of pitch to the hi lo tone, now it is basically the French fire tone, nice video!
Completely new siren to boot! Took me way too long to work that out lol Only realised once I compared the thumbnails and this one had stickers, which it didn't have last time...
I thought this was an ES2S, either way amazing!
Well it certainly used to be, but they replaced the un-stickered one I filmed last time with this newer one. I can never remember which is the Value siren and which is the Superior, so I've just left off the suffix lol
@@al66class59 The value is single toned, and the Superior is dual toned
@@CycloneJoey518 I'm no expert on these but I guess that's single/dual-toned when sounding the wail tone? Also surely they could just change the files on the controller regardless of its Value/Superior status I'd always assumed the Superiors didn't have the Klaxon sticker and the Value sirens did, but that may be completely misguided lol
@@CycloneJoey518Apparently Superiors can be single too now. It’s really confusing lmao
they should make them 8/12 port.

Fog horn?
Why are there 2 sirens?
The smaller GP8 siren was decommissioned when the new, larger, louder GP12 was installed. The GP8 has since been removed and put into storage, as far as I am aware.
Its an old siren how old is it????
I'd guess from the late 1970s or early 1980s, but I don't know for certain
2:04 siren started and the bird are scared
6/7 Port?
5/6
this siren has somewhat ended up like Siren F because the high tone shutter is jammed open and the low tone shutter does pulse which it isn't supposed to do.
All the sirens are my favorites
I like how it just stops, instead of having to wait for a long wind-down.
